Winter Solstice Celebrations

Mon 21st December 2009, NIEA Historic Buildings, Monuments and Buildings Record, Waterman House, 5-33 Hill Street, Belfast BT1 2LA

1:00pm – 1:30pm   Demonstration of the NIEA Built Heritage online MapViewer.  Learn how to locate historic monuments on this system, access maps at various scales, and view landscapes and sites on aerial photographs.

 

2:00pm – 2:20pm   Talk by Terry Moseley, Irish Astronomical Association, on “The Solstice Through the Millennia.”

 

 

2:30pm – 3:30pm   Talk by Prof Mike Baillie on “Tree Rings and Comets.” 

This talk will discuss how studying Irish tree-rings can provide hints of interactions with comets through the millennia. 

 

 

3:30 – 6:00pm         Outdoor projections of our Built Heritage photographic archive on the gable wall of Waterman House

 

 

4:00 – 5:30pm         Hands-on sessions on how to make the most of the archive material in the Monuments and Buildings Record
