Marble Arch Caves
Foundations of the Ulster Way

Tue 2nd March 2010, Enniskillen Library

Join Dr Kirstin Lemon, Geopark Geologist with the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark for an illustrated talk on the intriguing geology that underpins the diverse range of landscapes traversed by the Ulster Way in West Fermanagh. A great deal of the Ulster Way in this area is contained within the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark with its diverse landscapes from rugged mountain uplands to gently lapping lough shores and everything in between. Pre-registration is essential.

Introducing the walk, Kirstin explains: "The Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark has been recognised as a special place by UNESCO for its wealth of geodiversity and through this illustrated talk, I hope to show how this fabulous geology has influenced everything from local landscapes to the fascinating plants, wildlife and wealth of historical and archaeological sites in the area. It will hopefully also help you to uncover new walking routes and more information on the natural and cultural history that this area is so richly steeped in"

This talk is part of a wider series of events organised and promoted by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency to celebrate the launch of the revised Ulster Way route and new website. Details of other events in the series can be found at www.ni-environment.gov.uk and www.walkni.com/ulsterway
