The Annual Belfast Trust Feile Lecture Food Poverty
Tuesday 7 August 2012
St Marys College, Falls Road, Belfast
Professor Martin Caraher (Centre for Food Policy at City University, London) outlines the changes in the global and national economics of European countries that are bringing about the (re)emergence of hunger, as well as increases in chronic heart diseases and cancers. Simultaneously, changes in many national welfare systems are creating new groups of food vulnerable and food poor. Ironically, the same people who are hungry are also those who are overweight. This is the new face of food poverty in the 21st century.
